NSW Liberal Leader Peter Debnam said today the widening of the Spit
Bridge was not the solution to the traffic gridlock on the Northern
Beaches. "The widening of the Spit Bridge is simply a false hope and Northern Beaches residents know it," Mr Debnam said. "A Liberal Government will not proceed with the widening of the Spit Bridge. It's a band-aid solution that will do nothing to ease traffic congestion on the Northern Beaches. "It will simply move the traffic jam further up the Spit Hill and in addition the construction work will create an absolute nightmare for motorists. "The Spit Bridge widening was promised by the Labor Government before the last election and has never been delivered. "The Labor Government has treated residents of the Northern Beaches with contempt for 12 years, highlighted by the recent axing of 270 weekly bus services. "They've announced and re-announced the widening of the Spit Bridge on at least four occasions. "The money spent on widening the Spit Bridge would be far better going towards improved public transport and improving the Sydney Road and Burnt Creek Bypass intersection. "The time for Labor excuses is over. Morris Iemma, Carl Scully, Michael Costa, and Eric Roozendaal have ignored the Northern Beaches and re-announcements made a few months before the election can't be believed. "The Liberals are committed to providing the Northern Beaches with a long-term solution to traffic congestion, not a band-aid one which will only move the traffic jam further up the Spit Hill," Mr Debnam said. |
