$86 Million For Key Rail Station Upgrades

NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam and Shadow Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian today announced an $86 million rail station upgrade program, adding to those already committed to by the Government.

“Commuters are so often frustrated by the lack of security and parking facilities at our train stations,” Mr Debnam said.

“We will commit $86 million towards the upgrade of 12 rail stations situated in key growth areas of the CityRail network by providing more car parking facilities and increased CCTV security,” he said.

“This program is aimed at encouraging more people to ‘park and ride’ by expanding commuter car parking facilities and making them safer.

“Upgrading railway stations provides for a more integrated transport system allowing people to transfer from their cars to public transport quickly and easily.

The NSW Liberal/Nationals station upgrade plan will provide:

  • $56 million to upgrade parking and CCTV at Sutherland, Liverpool, Holsworthy, Hornsby, Penrith, Waterfall and Berowra train stations; and,

  • $30 million to upgrade Gosford, Woy Woy, Wyong, Warnervale and Tuggerah train stations.

Ms Berejiklian said a NSW Liberal/Nationals Government would make catching public transport more convenient and more affordable.

“Expanding car parks and installing more CCTV will make linking up with your train service easier and safer, and together with the NSW Liberal/Nationals four-year fare freeze, will increase the number of people using public transport.

“To cater for the additional patronage we will provide more peak and express train services following a full review of the CityRail timetable. Under a NSW Liberal/Nationals Government, commuters will have more parking spaces, safer stations, better value fares and more train services,” Ms Berejiklian said.

Mr Debnam said after twelve years, Labor’s had long enough.

“If you want to fix the NSW transport network, then don’t vote Labor. The only way to fix the problems is to vote Liberal or National next Saturday,” Mr Debnam said.
