Ethanol Today!

Peter Debnam converted his own car to run on 85% ethanol two years ago. He continues to use E85 to encourage other motorists to give ethanol a go.

In a carbon-constrained world ethanol is a valuable alternative biofuel to polluting petrol.

Compared with standard petrol ethanol:

is low polluting;
is low cost; and
is locally produced in Australia.

It is a pure-burning fuel which makes it safe for use in modern cars.

The Liberals/Nationals have an action plan to:

  • Expand ethanol content in bulk fuel sales according to the following timetable:

2007 – 2%
2008 – 4%
2009 – 6%
2010 – 8%
2011 – 10%

  • The sale of E10 (10% ethanol blend) at up to 500 service stations across NSW.
  • Commit $5 million to help fund the conversion of existing service station infrastructure such as fuel tanks for E10 storage and for signage associated with the sale of E10 at service station outlets.
  • A strong marketing plan in co-operation with the NRMA and environmental groups.
  • Take a leadership role on other alternative fuels, including cutting registration costs by $50 and allow access to transit lanes for all LPG or hybrid electric vehicles.

The Liberals/Nationals action plan can start reducing our greenhouse gas emissions not in 5, 10 or 20 years, but right now.

The policy is affordable and has been developed in conjunction with industry and motoring groups.
