A straightforward plan to fix NSW

Peter Debnam's Blog - Thursday, 1st March 2007

Today is March 1 and writs for the election on March 24 will be issued next week. This will mark the official start of the election.

On March 24 the people of NSW will decide whether they will vote to reward Labor and more of the same .. or vote Liberal or Nationals to fix NSW.

I believe the people of NSW want change. With just over three weeks to go, we still have a big job to do.

In this campaign I am making a very simple point – after 12 years, Labor has had long enough and it’s time to fix NSW.

Our team has been listening. And our team has developed a straight-forward plan to fix NSW.

We have released our policies, weeks, months and years before the election to give people the opportunity to examine our plans to fix NSW.

To that end next week we will be mailing to 600,000 households across NSW and posting on our website our plan to fix NSW, to rescue the economy, to tackle the water crisis and restore public services in this state.

Key initiatives include

  • our plan for recycling to boost drinking supplies over Labor’s desalination

  • our plan to reduce taxes, including payroll tax and land tax, versus Labor’s higher taxes, and

  • transferring resources from the backroom to the frontline of our nurses, police and teachers, versus Labor’s bloated Sydney bureaucracy

We are doing this so people can hear directly from us. Because at the end of the day the plans in this document is what this election is all about- how we fix NSW.

Every day Labor and the Unions will try and distract people from their record in Government over the last twelve years and run scare campaigns and misrepresent our position. However, I will not be distracted from focusing on the issues that the people of NSW want fixed.

Our task is to get our message across to the community, whatever way we can. There will always be plenty of opinions about how this can be done. That’s for the commentators.

But I’m going to remain focused on the message we have for NSW - after 12 years, Labor has had long enough and it’s time to fix NSW.

I don’t believe people in NSW want to reward Labor for what they have done to this state. I believe they want to fix NSW.

It will take more than one person to fix NSW. It will require all of my team.

But first, it will require the people of NSW to vote to fix NSW.

The first step to fix NSW is in your hands.

Regards,
