| RTA Playing Politics With Lane Cove Tunnel |

NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam said today the RTA should stop playing politics with the Lane Cove Tunnel. "The RTA has done the Labor Government's bidding today by talking down the Lane Cove Tunnel and predicting traffic disaster," Mr Debnam said.
"Labor clearly fears another Cross City Tunnel style debacle and are doing all they can to lower expectations," he said. "The RTA used this same trick ahead of the Olympics and they are using it again for the traffic confusion surrounding the opening of the Lane Cove Tunnel. "The overwhelming issue with the Lane Cove Tunnel is the $25 million bribe the Labor Party has paid the tunnel operators to delay the road changes until after the election. "It was the Iemma-Costa Labor Government which signed the Lane Cove Tunnel contract. Taxpayers have already paid enough for the Labor Government's mistakes without being forced to pay yet again. "All Morris Iemma is doing is throwing money at the problem to remove difficult headlines before the election. "Instead of dealing with the real issues surrounding the narrowing of Epping Road, the Labor Party is trying to sneak past the election using $25 million of taxpayers' money for purely political purposes. "Labor can't find $25 million to fight child sexual abuse in Aboriginal communities, but it can find the same amount to delay road changes with the Lane Cove Tunnel. "Labor clearly can't manage major infrastructure projects be it the Cross City Tunnel, the Lane Cove Tunnel or their desalination plant in the Sutherland Shire," Mr Debnam said.
