| After 12 Years Of Labor's Excuses, Vital Transport Infrastructure Remains Undelivered |
|
NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam and Shadow Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said today the Iemma-Costa Labor Government had failed to deliver promised transport infrastructure improvements for NSW commuters. After 12 years of Labor's excuses, commuters are putting up with failing infrastructure that should have been replaced or upgraded years ago, Mr Debnam said. These are the same Labor transport promises made eight years ago yet still undelivered - which Premier Iemma tried to downplay this morning as aspirational[1], he said. "The people of Western Sydney didn't consider these promises as aspirational and they will hold Iemma-Costa Labor to account for its failure to deliver. Four months before the election Labor makes a big promise, but after 12 years of failing to deliver transport improvements, its unlikely the community or long suffering commuters will believe them. Labors last glossy transport brochure, Action for Transport 2010, promised commuters the earth, but the reality is 12 of the 16 promised public transport projects remain undelivered or have simply disappeared altogether. The worst news for taxpayers is that Labor is incapable of delivering any major infrastructure project on-time or on-budget, with some developments costing twice as much for half of what was promised. Ms Berejiklian said commuters are experiencing reduced services whether they catch trains or buses. Labor has slashed 416 daily train services for their new timetable and have so far axed more than 1,500 weekly bus services this year alone, Ms Berejiklian said. Public transport commuters are paying more and getting less under the Iemma-Costa Labor Government, she said. Mr Debnam said the time for Labor's excuses is over. After 12 years of Labor, the Iemma-Costa Government is rotten, and its time for a change. [1] Radio 2UE News 8am 20 November 2006 |
