| Morris Iemma And Michael Costa Bring Up A Tax Ton |
|
NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam, Shadow Minister for Finance Peta Seaton, and Shadow Minister for Commerce Greg Pearce today revealed Labor's Morris Iemma and Michael Costa have brought up their tax ton.
"Since Morris Iemma and Michael Costa took over 18 months ago, they've worked rapidly to squeeze every drop of revenue from the community," Mr Debnam said. "The number of taxes and charges Morris Iemma and Michael Costa have increased, extended, or introduced has now reached in excess of 100," he said. "Labor say they're heading in the right direction, so where exactly are they taking us? NSW families and small businesses are well aware they are the highest taxed of any in the country. This needs to change. "Labor's appalling record over 12 years has driven the NSW economy to the brink of recession, the budget into deficit and the housing sector into crisis. "I believe government needs to get off people's backs and out of their pockets. "In contrast to Labor which has built up its tax army by hiring nearly 400 new tax collectors taking the total to around 1,300. "The NSW Liberal/Nationals team has led they way in lower state taxes with policies to abolish the vendor duty, cut payroll tax and yesterday cuts to land tax giving the average investor a saving of around $900. "After 12 years of Labor, land tax revenue has increased from $580 million in 1995/96 to $1,848 million in 2006/07. This is an increase of $1,268 million or 218.6% "The choice for the people of NSW is clear, a NSW Liberal/Nationals Government that will lower taxes or a Labor Government under Morris Iemma and Michael Costa which will increase taxes," Mr Debnam said. Ms Seaton said after 12 years, Morris Iemma and Michael Costa won't change their ways no matter what promises they make to be better in the future. Mr Pearce said the only way to fix NSW is to elect a NSW Liberal/Nationals Government.
