DON'T VOTE LABOR!

Peter Debnam's Blog - Friday, 16th March 2007

The last few days in NSW have been a repeat of the last twelve years.

Public transport in chaos, cover ups on toxic waste, housing for cash scandals and cynical political deals with the Green that put Labor’s political interests above those of families on drugs, are all just too common in NSW.

Yet if the polls are right, the Labor Government will be easily re-elected on March 24. This will be a very bad outcome for NSW. You know this is true. And you can stop it.

The last few days have demonstrated once again why this election is so important – more stuff ups, more empty apologies, more of the same!

State Governments run our most essential public services – water, hospitals, schools and police. And after 12 years these services are in a mess.

If the polls today are right, then Labor will win this election and you will get more of the same for four more years.

This election will be your only chance until 2011, four years away, to tell Labor what you really think of them.  So if you’re NOT happy with the job Labor have done, then don’t vote Labor on March 24.

We will continue the fight to stop Labor, because we believe the policies we have presented at this election will fix NSW. Just to remind you:

  • a $950 million plan to use recycled water to boost our drinking water supplies, as opposed to Morris Iemma’s $1.9 billion desalination plant at Kurnell;

  • recruiting an additional 500 nurses by improving working conditions, in addition to the 1200 nursing vacancies Labor have been unable to fill.

  • cracking down on anti-social behaviour by recruiting 1,720 new police, almost 1,000 more than Labor, and give them increased powers under the Summary Offences Act to do their job;

  • reducing the tax burden on families and small business by cutting Land tax and payroll tax;

  • investing an extra $900 million to upgrade, unclog and make our roads safer;

  • providing $362 million to boost affordability and access to pre-schools to give our children the best possible start in life;

  • helping commuters get to and from work by getting back to basics on our public transport system – better timetables, more express services and more integrated management of our transport system – just like we had at the Olympics.

And I will never support any softening on our drug laws, and unlike Morris Iemma I will not support any Party, such as the Greens, who do.

Morris Iemma’s deal with the Greens will put more Green MPs in the parliament. Under our electoral laws he has until 5.00pm this afternoon to cancel this deal.

Morris Iemma must decide today whether he is more interested in protecting families from the Green dangerous policies on drugs, or supporting himself.

To stop Labor and to prevent today’s polls becoming a reality on Saturday week, then don’t vote Labor. NSW cannot afford another four years of the same.

Regards,

Peter Debnam

PS. And on Sunday, let’s not be intimidated by the Unions and Labor seeking to hijack the 75th anniversary celebration of the Bridge. It should be a great day for Sydney. It’s a shame that Labor and Unions have chosen not to respect the nature of the day. I hope they change their mind.
