Debate the issues Morris

Peter Debnam's Blog - Tuesday, 13th March 2007

It says something about Morris Iemma and Labor that they are more interested in talking about How to Vote Cards and swimwear than the many problems that need to be fixed in NSW in this election campaign.

Morris Iemma has acquired selective amnesia in this campaign.

Firstly, Morris Iemma has forgotten his team, especially Michael Costa, Frank Sartor and Joe Tripodi who he will re-appoint to call the shots if Labor is re-elected.

I am very proud of my team. That’s why you will see photos of them on our election material, not just me. This is the team I will be working with to fix NSW, if we are elected on March 24. Morris Iemma and Labor are pretending that Morris Iemma can run the Government on his own.

Secondly, Morris Iemma has forgotten his own role in the Labor Government for the past twelve years. Unlike Morris Iemma, I remember the last twelve years, not just the last eighteen months. Morris Iemma has played a major role in the Labor Government. He refuses to defend Labor’s record, because it is simply indefensible.

And thirdly Morris Iemma has forgotten his own party. You won’t find the name Labor mentioned anywhere. But it is the Labor party heavyweights who put Morris Iemma in his job as Premier, and will continue to pull Morris Iemma’s strings if Labor is re-elected on March 24.

Morris Iemma should also explain to the people of New South Wales why he is running a viscous US style campaign against me, complete with cartoons and doctored photos. I think the people of NSW deserve better than Labor’s grubby politics.

Yesterday, I challenged Morris Iemma to another debate. Morris Iemma has been happy to attack my record outside politics. He should have the honesty to show up and deliver his attacks in person, and not hide behind Labor’s multi-million dollar dishonest advertising campaign.

I am happy to stand behind everything that has been said in this campaign and debate Morris Iemma directly on the issues that need fixing in NSW, such as heath, water, the economy, police and public transport.

These issues are now coming into focus as the election approaches. Morris Iemma should be prepared and stand up and argue his case directly before the people of NSW on these issues in the heat of an election campaign.

We asked for three full on debates in this campaign. Morris Iemma would only do one, a sit down ‘fireside chat’ in the safe and cosy environment of five weeks before an election. There was no agreement to only one debate – this is just another Labor lie.

I’m happy to be there to debate Morris Iemma on Friday night, Sunday Morning, Tuesday afternoon, whenever he likes. We can stand up, sit down or even lie down if he likes, as long as he shows up. But the reality is that Morris Iemma will continue to run and hide.  Over to you Morris.

Regards,

PS. And on the Greens preference deal with Labor, how can the Greens support Labor when Labor are going to build a desalination plant and refuse to filter the M5 and the Lane Cove Tunnel. The Greens have once again shown their true colours.

It is now clear, if you are unhappy with Labor at this election, then you can’t vote for either Labor or the Greens, they’re the same thing.
